'A gift from nothingness. Conception first, then reality. From root of clay by art of fire, idea becomes spirit becomes body.
Art is of and for the human condition.'
Gwen Pigott, S.P. 1997
Form is what matters to me in any material. Peaches, plums, the rounded forms of the body... the fullness of form and its relationship to gravity.
The surface of my pots consist of several layers of matte raku glazes which are fired several times with a new layer of glaze applied before each firing.
My goal is to produce a glazed surface which appears to be more like fabric than glass.
This non-reflective surface reiterates the softness of the shapes and evokes a sense of mystery.
