Susan Gordon Hillier's earlier works in pastel capture the scenery of Ashfield, Massachusetts and hilltowns beyond.

Her most recent development from the objective 'outer landscape' to the more conceptual 'inner landscape' translates into a new medium and process. Susan works in oil paint and wax medium with her fingers acting as brushes, and with scrapers, putty knives and sticks that together provide a more immediate and direct expression.

'It allows freedom, risk and an element of playfulness which I love. I allow accidents to happen, and the paint speaks with its unique voice.'
