Do the fabled mists of Ireland look different than our mists in Maine?
Fog, Cloud, Mist. Why does water vapor produce such evocative emotions? Scenes
that are so prosaic in the broad light of day take on such mystery in a mist.
Perhaps this fascination stems from my childhood summers in Long Island?
Mists rolled in during the night and hid the world. Come mid-morning
it all blew out, exposing the raw sharpness of a noonday sun.
I find much more comfort in the mist.
I aim to create images that project an intense sense of place,
that irresistibly position you in the world of the image, whether
crisp, with every atom seemingly leaping forth, or a half-discerned fog.
I want my art to transport you into a place and perhaps
into a time, it should invite you into its space in a
fashion dependent on your own emotional state.
In my experience this makes for art worth living with.
