Designed by Marsha Fleisher, Loominus Handwovens creates 'Wearable Art' that is sophisticated, timeless, and fashion forward.
When l purchased my first loom in 1983, I had no formal training but was drawn to the meditative
quality of weaving. After a year-long apprenticeship with a master weaver in Woodstock, New York,
I started exhibiting and selling as LOOMINUS HANDWOVENS. Having a studio in my home for fifteen
years allowed me to raise my two sons and stay connected to a life in the country.
As I explored woven fabric on the loom, I searched for a depth of color and velvet-like drape that
I found only when weaving with rayon chenille. I developed a unique way of handling this fiber that
brought out its soft, lush sensual hand.
I am inspired by nature in all its forms and the continual interplay of color and design. I'm also
inspired by the people who enjoy my work as 'wearable art' - such a full spectrum of variations of
fhe same theme.
When I design, many elements are involved - to be playful, yet sophisticated; to stretch my
artistic boundaries and await the unexpected; and to keep a thread tied to wearability. I work in
a multitude of patterns and color combinations using tabby and twill combinations. Every
combination of color and pattern presents a different dynamic, a new harmony that weaves us all
together, creating new possibilities in fabric and experience.
I am nurtured by the entire process, the designing, the production and especially the selling
when the world interacts with art.
