silent art auction for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts
In the spirit of this year's theme of 'art and food', Paradise City Arts Festival's annual
Silent Art Auction at the October 2010 event benefits the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
Hundreds of beautiful and valuable works of art and fine craft donated by Paradise City artists will be auctioned off over the three days of the show.
100% of the proceeds benefit the Food Bank, which works behind the scenes of
nearly every charitable organization that provides food to people in need in Western
Massachusetts.
Each year the Food Bank distributes more than 6 million pounds of food to
agencies to help feed people in need, including soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless
shelters, childcare centers, and elder programs throughout Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties.
Paradise City Arts Festival joins Museums10 (Amherst, Smith, Hampshire and Mount Holyoke
Colleges and the University of Massachusetts) in a region-wide series of exhibitions
this fall celebrating the art, science and history of food. In addition, Museums10
will hold a non-perishable food drive at the Paradise City Arts Festival on behalf of the Food Bank.
'64% of the people we serve live in poverty. Nearly half of them have had to choose
between buying food and paying for utilities, rent, mortgage or medical care.' - The Food Bank
