Deb believes the essence of photography is the art and science of painting with light and she uses her camera like a paintbrush, the world like a palette. She thinks of her work as visual alchemy: a transformation not of matter into gold but rather of light, color and line into art. Elementalism, in-camera multiple exposure and intentional camera movement (ICM) are all essential tools of her alchemy. Deb finds using these techniques are a form of controlled chaos — often simultaneously controllable yet unpredictable— allowing her to challenge reality and capture a feeling or impression rather than replicating reality with precision. Her work has been recognized and exhibited across the country and internationally in solo and group shows and is also part of private and corporate collections nationwide. She serves as a judge and guest presenter for camera clubs across the US and England, as well as teaching a range of photography courses. Her newest venture — The Traveling Lens — has her leading travel photography workshops with British photographer Jonathan Vaines in the likes of London, Paris, and New York City. Deb also chronicles her global adventures in words and images for Everett Potter’s Travel Report.
