Emer McCourt

A lifelong animal lover, Emer McCourt set out to learn to draw to improve her painting skills. At almost 50, she had spent decades raising her children & pursuing a corporate career. She dove headfirst into art. Charcoal quickly became her primary medium. A self-taught artist, Emer is best known for her works in charcoal. She uses charcoal in a painterly way moving charcoal with brushes to depict movement and expression. In 2025, having worked exclusively with charcoal for five years, Emer picked up a paintbrush once again. She now enjoys painting with acrylic and gouache and continues to enjoy all the dry media too. She is endlessly inspired by the animal world. She aspires to capture a little of an animals essence in her work. She loves to depict their expressions, emotions and antics. A late blooming artist, Emer is originally from Dublin, Ireland. She lives on Boston’s North Shore with family and, of course, several pets.
