Edward Spencer

Edward Spencer has been creating fine jewelry since 1972. After graduating from Boston University with a degree in Comparative Religions, he founded Skylight Jewelers in downtown Boston in 1974, moving his practice from a living-room studio into the Jewelers Building. The skylight above his original workspace inspired the name. More than fifty years later, Skylight Jewelers remains in downtown Boston, just a block from its original location. Spencer began as a gem cutter and gemstone enthusiast, developing an intimate knowledge of gems from rough material to finished stone. This foundation continues to shape his work, particularly his use of rare and unusual gemstones, including carved Ceylon moonstone set with gold and diamonds. Guided by the belief that “education is unceasing,” Spencer approaches jewelry as an evolving art form. His designs combine technical craftsmanship with experimentation, creating sculptural, wearable works that consider the movement, comfort, and individuality of the wearer. Today, Spencer focuses on quality over quantity, dedicating time to thoughtful design, meticulous craftsmanship, and the exploration of new ideas. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to the traditions of fine jewelry while continually pushing them in unexpected directions.
