Ellie Wyeth's painterly style and vivid colors infuse all of her work, including her distinctive custom-made floor cloths. A published illustrator, she has also been included in numerous gallery shows for her acrylic and oil paintings. Wyeth's floorcloths are quite playful, with imaginative paintings of garden produce, flowers, fish, animals, insects and chickens. Each floor cloth is hand-painted with latex paint on durable canvas, covered with several coats of acrylic polyurethane, and backed with a rubber non-skid pad. Her laminated, limited edition placemats also include whimsical and colorful subjects for all ages.
My Process
When I prepare the floorcloth canvas, I cut (generally) a rectangle size (depending on the specs for a custom order or my own design), prep with acrylic gesso, sand it once its dry, and then paint the background with 3 coats of latex paint. The design is painted with acrylic and then coated with acrylic polyurethane. I always back the floorcloth with a rubber pad. They are slippery without padding!
